the lil tyke’s had a rough couple of days.
I knew my eating habits affected my breastmilk, but I didn’t realize the extent of it. I’m apparently supposed to eat a bland diet also, no chocolate (Weeeeeeep!!)
my big thing has been milk. they gave me milk in the hospital, so I thought I was supposed to drink it. I’ve been drinking 2 or 4 servings a day, only to discover upon calling a nurse that I wasn’t supposed to be drinking any milk in the first place. weeeeeird!! maybe it’s okay unless the baby has a negative reaction to it? who knows.
anyway!
Jaiden’s had colic the past two nights, and evidently the cause is my milk. bloats him up something awful, and he can’t burp/fart, and it hurts his poor little belly.
night before last we didn’t know what to do and kept running around trying everything, and he finally conked out from sheer exhaustion and woke up fine. gets the icky gas again last night, and won’t stop crying my milk only seemed to make it worse, and he isn’t supposed to eat any less than every hour and a half. sooo we called the advice nurse and she gave me a list of things to try. both Jason and I responded well as babies to being driven around, so we put Jaiden in his slightly-too-big sweater and then in his car-seat, and as soon as I started walking with the car-seat he fell asleep. he stayed that way until I took him out of it in a parking-lot, to try and burp him. there he set to wailing again, and I tried burping him for about ten minutes before putting him back in his seat and continuing with the drive. he stayed asleep until 4am, and he woke up hungry (but not in pain), and he’s asleep now so he’s fine again. I’ve stopped drinking milk obviously, and no chocolate for me. someone posted something online about garlic, tomatos, and other acidic stuff being bad, so I’m going to stay away from them for now. no more pizza evidently cheese is okay though, just not milk. not sure what that means? maybe cheese doesn’t make it to the milk? who knows.
anyway!
we’re hoping tonight will be better, even though the milk may not be all the way through my system yet. everybody in the family seems to be trying to get me to stop giving him breastmilk, but I’m sticking to it because I know he’ll be healthier in the long-run. a few nights of colic will not change my mind. they all think that because they didn’t breastfeed and their kid/kids turned out well, it really isn’t necessary. even so, their kids have had health issues, and every little bit helps I think. I’m gonna stick to this unless we find out he’s allergic to my milk, or something equally drastic.
